911 Emergency Services Disclosure
Overview
CAM Telecom provides Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephone service. As a VoIP customer, you must be aware that 911 emergency calling on our service has important limitations and differences compared to traditional landline telephone service.
By subscribing to CAM Telecom's services, you acknowledge that you have read, understand, and accept the terms of this 911 disclosure.
Service Limitations
- Internet or Power Outage: If your internet connection or electrical power is interrupted, your VoIP service — including 911 — will not function.
- Network Congestion: High network congestion may delay or disrupt your ability to connect to a 911 operator.
- Incorrect or Outdated Address: If you have not registered or updated your physical service address, emergency services may be dispatched to an incorrect location.
- Service Relocation: If you move your VoIP equipment to a different address without notifying CAM Telecom, your 911 calls may route to the wrong emergency dispatch center (PSAP).
- Non-Fixed VoIP: VoIP calls placed from a mobile device or softphone application in a location different from your registered address will transmit your registered address — not your actual location — to the 911 dispatcher.
- Initial Service Activation: 911 Enhanced capabilities may not be fully active during the initial provisioning window of your service. We will notify you when E911 is fully operational.
Address Registration
To ensure that emergency services are dispatched to the correct location, you are required to provide CAM Telecom with your accurate physical service address. This address will be transmitted to the local Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) when you dial 911.
Contact CAM Telecom support at (732) 352-9700 or email e911@camtelecom.com. Address updates typically take effect within one business day.
You must update your registered address before relocating your VoIP equipment to a new physical address. Failure to do so may result in emergency services being sent to your previous location.
Power & Internet Outages
VoIP service requires both electrical power and an active internet connection to function. Unlike traditional landline telephone service, VoIP service will not operate during a power outage unless you have backup power (such as a UPS battery backup) for your modem, router, and VoIP adapter.
CAM Telecom strongly recommends that all customers:
- Maintain a charged mobile phone capable of making calls independent of your internet service.
- Install an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) to power critical network and telephony equipment during power outages.
- Post emergency contact numbers in a visible location in case VoIP service is unavailable.
Your Obligations as a Customer
By subscribing to CAM Telecom service, you agree to:
- Provide and maintain an accurate, current physical address for E911 purposes.
- Notify CAM Telecom promptly of any change in the physical location of your VoIP equipment.
- Inform all users of your CAM Telecom service — including employees, household members, and guests — of the limitations of VoIP 911 service described in this disclosure.
- Place a physical label on or near each VoIP phone indicating the registered E911 address and these limitations.
CAM Telecom provides sample 911 labels and stickers upon request. Contact our support team to request materials.
Alternative 911 Access
To ensure continuous access to 911 emergency services in situations where VoIP service may be unavailable, CAM Telecom strongly recommends that you maintain at least one of the following alternatives:
- A mobile/cellular phone charged and available at all times
- A traditional landline (POTS) line as a backup
- A cable telephone line from another provider
You may also dial 911 from any mobile phone in the United States, even without an active wireless plan, as long as the phone has a charged battery and is within range of a cellular network.
